After World War II, the GI Bill helped 8 million veterans go to college, helping to spur exponential economic growth and to build the American middle class. Now, Congress once again has an opportunity – and I believe, an obligation – to strengthen America’s commitment to those who have served in combat. I recently joined forces with Reps. Ginny Brown-Waite, Bobby Scott, Peter King and Sens. Jim Webb and Chuck Hagel to introduce a new GI Bill that provides those returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan with educational benefits ranging from college tuition to living stipends. The new G.I. Bill is critical to strengthening our nation’s military.
