WASHINGTON – Congressman Mitchell released the following statement after the Army Corps of Engineers released its Director’s Report on the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In the report, the Army Corps of Engineers recalculated its previous benefit-cost analysis, and issued a revised score of 2.42. As the benefit-cost analysis number produced exceeds 1.0, the upgrading of the Soo Locks can now be included in the Water Resources Development Act, and future authorization and budgeting steps can move forward.
WASHINGTON - Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement today after the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that Michigan was the recipient of a $97,864,465 DOT Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant for repairs to Mound Road. Mound Road, a highly-trafficked corridor connecting communities in southeast Michigan is in extremely poor condition and in need of significant repairs.
WASHINGTON – This morning, the House Armed Services Committee passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2019 which included language offered by Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) affirming the national security importance of the Soo Locks.

Paul Mitchell (MI-10), H.R. 4921, the STB Information Security Improvement Act, which requires that the Surface Transportation Board (STB) implement an information security plan that follows recommendations set out in a recent unfavorable Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General (DOT IG) report.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Rep. Paul Mitchell (MI-10) sent a letter to Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Hon. David MacNaughton, urging repair of the Bluewater Ferry. Since January 2018, the Bluewater Ferry, which connects Marine City, Michigan to Sombra, Ontario, has been inoperable due to damage sustained to the ferry’s dock on the Canadian side of the St. Clair River.
The American workforce must be ready to meet our nation’s expanding infrastructure needs. During President Trump’s State of the Union Address, he stressed an overhaul of our nation’s aging infrastructure as a national priority, as well as the need to prepare Americans to fill the millions of jobs that will be created by a major rebuilding of our infrastructure.
