Providing Regulatory Relief with passage of my first bill in CongressI hear from families and businesses across the district that over regulation makes it harder to succeed. I am proud to deliver on my promise to provide relief, and to have done so in my first 100 days.
Protecting Our Great Lakes
Our Great Lakes are a beautiful natural resource, and support commerce throughout our district. It is imperative that we take appropriate precautions to protect our Great Lakes. That is why I joined the Great Lakes Task Force, dedicated to advancing policies and programs that protect environmental quality throughout the Great Lakes basin.
Ontario Power Generation has proposed to build a nuclear waste facility within a mile of Lake Huron. This is a safety and environmental hazard we cannot risk. As one of my first acts in Congress, I sent a letter to President Trump asking him to urge our Canadian neighbors to move the proposed site to a more suitable location. Read the full letter here.
In addition, I am working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
As the House continues the step-by-step process of restoring health care, I am committed to maintaining protections for patients with pre-existing conditions, which is why I coauthored the Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act. Mitchell in Michigan
I joined 4th and 5th graders at Hevel Elementary School to celebrate “Reading Month.” I was glad to share a good book with some great students and answer their questions about Congress.
Sat down with Chief Robert Phillips, Macomb Township Supervisor Janet Dunn, and some of the firefighters in Macomb. We discussed the ACA, the impact of regulations, and the opioid epidemic. I am humbled by their commitment to our community and their willingness to assume risk to keep us safe. Thank you for your service and for meeting with me.
Visited Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works to talk about their programs to support Michigan’s Workforce Development system.
I met with constituents who use Medicare Advantage to discuss maintaining this important program.
