Press Release

Shelby Township, Mich. – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement this afternoon regarding recent trade developments between the United States and Mexico.

“There is an undeniable crisis at our southern border, and President Donald Trump has made it clear that Mexico must step up and do its part to stem the tide of immigrants attempting to enter our nation illegally. We must protect our national security, as well as our economic security, and that is what this move by the Administration aims to do. There is still time for Mexico to do its part to resolve this issue without the imposition of tariffs.

“If Mexico fails to address this major issue in a timely manner, I believe there are steps the United States should explore other than tariffs that demonstrate we are serious about the matter.  Resolving this issue is important for moving forward towards ratification of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement - a mutually beneficial trade agreement that will help workers and businesses in both nations.”
