Congressman Mitchell Requests Governor Whitmer Reverse COVID-19 Long-Term Care Facility Policy
WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after leading his Michigan colleagues in a letter to Governor Whitmer requesting she reverse her policy that requires nursing homes to admit residents who may have COVID-19. The letter also urges Governor Whitmer to comply with the requested oversight of these policies by the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus:
“Michiganders know our state has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Elderly individuals, especially those in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, are particularly susceptible to the disease. Rather than taking steps to protect this vulnerable population, the Governor’s misguided policy requiring facilities accept individuals regardless of their COVID-19 status has led to the unnecessary death of thousands of Michigan’s elderly residents. I, along with my other Michigan colleagues, implore her to reverse this policy before more lives are unnecessarily lost.”
Joining Rep. Mitchell on the letter were Rep. Huizenga, Rep. Moolenaar, Rep. Upton, Rep. Bergman and Rep. Walberg. To read the full letter, click here.
