Mitchell Disappointed in Reduced Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Funding in Trump Budget

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after President Trump’s FY2019 budget proposal called for vastly reduced funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI).
“While there are many things in the president’s budget proposal I support, I am disappointed the president’s proposal does not call for full funding to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative,” said Mitchell. “Our Great Lakes are a national treasure, and the GLRI supports critical projects that improve water quality, combat invasive species, protect the Great Lakes ecosystem, and more. As I did in 2017, I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to push for full funding of the GLRI.”
Representative Mitchell is a member of the Great Lakes Task Force, dedicated to advancing policies and programs that protect environmental quality throughout the Great Lakes basin.
