Press Release

Washington – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the DNA of six Asian carp was detected miles from the shore of Lake Michigan.

“Since coming to Congress, stopping invasive species – especially Asian carp – from reaching the Great Lakes has been one of my top priorities. In my role on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I pushed the Army Corps of Engineers to release its final Brandon Road Study, which details methods to protect the Great Lakes from Asian carp. I have also worked closely in committee with my colleague from Illinois, Rep. Rodney Davis, to find a solution at Brandon Road that ensures Asian carp do not reach the Great Lakes. This latest discovery underscores the urgency and seriousness of the situation, and I will continue to advocate for the Great Lakes in every venue I have.”
