Mitchell Responds to USACE Final Brandon Road Study Regarding Asian Carp
WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the follow statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released its final Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study – Brandon Road Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement.
“I’m pleased the U.S. Army Corps Engineers released its final Brandon Road Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement,” said Mitchell. “It’s hard to overstate the risk our Great Lakes face from invasive species, and the Brandon Road Lock and Dam Site is the last barrier preventing Asian Carp from reaching the Great Lakes Basin. This report allows stakeholders and policy makers in Congress, the Administration, and state and local governments to make informed decisions about future Brandon Road efforts and infrastructure to keep Asian Carp from invading the Great Lakes. Preventing invasive species like Asian Carp from reaching the Great Lakes has been one of my priorities in Congress, and I will continue doing anything I can to protect Michigan’s greatest natural resource.”
