Mitchell Sends Letter to Protect Michigan Sugarbeet Farmers
Washington, D.C. – Representative Mitchell sent a letter to President Trump encouraging the use of anti-dumping laws to offset Mexico’s sugar trade practices. Representative Mitchell released the following statement:
“Between 2013 and 2014, sugar growers lost an estimated $2 billion due to Mexican sugar dumping. These unequitable trade practices are making it impossible for Michigan sugarbeet growers to compete. I am pleased that Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has re-engaged with the Mexican government and strongly encourage him to use anti-dumping and countervailing duty laws to end Mexico’s dumping of subsidized sugar into the U.S. sugar market.”
