Mitchell Statement on Government Funding Bill

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 244 to fund the federal government:

“A series of short term solutions is not how our government should be run.  Though I am disappointed that the House of Representatives needed to resort to another short-term fix, given the challenges facing our nation from an unstable Europe, increasingly aggressive North Korea, and posturing Russia, the last thing we can afford to do is shut down.

Despite my disappointment at this process, I ultimately voted for this legislation because it includes important funding for Michigan and for America, including full funding for the GLRI, funds to study the potential invasion of Asian carp into the Great Lakes, funding for security at our border, increased funding for defense, funds to fight the opioid crisis, and maintains the Hyde amendment prohibition of federal funding for abortion.

We must get back to passing the targeted individual spending measures rather than massive spending bills.”
