Mitchell Statement on Health Care Reform

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Representative Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the Senate’s failure to act on health care reform:

“The health care system we have today is not working, and is not sustainable.  As I have said all along, people should have a choice in care.  Mandating that people have coverage and exactly what coverage they ought to have, violates consumers’ freedom to choose.  This approach has not worked.  That is why we made a commitment to the American people to institute real reform.

We did our job in the House.  It wasn’t easy, but we took necessary measures to stand by the promises we made to the American people.  The Senate’s inability to pass legislation to fix our broken health care system is disappointing to me, and it should be to all Americans.  I am calling those in the Senate, particularly Michigan Senators Stabenow and Peters, to contribute ideas that will solve this looming crisis.  I continue to stand ready to work with my colleagues in both the House and Senate to institute real health care reform,” said Representative Mitchell.

Representative Mitchell authored an op-ed with 11 of his freshmen colleagues calling on the Senate to act on health care.  Read the op-ed here.

Representative Mitchell appeared yesterday on Making Money on Fox Business to again call on the Senate to act. Watch the interview here.
