Mitchell Statement on the Passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

December 19, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1):

“I am proud to vote for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.  Throughout my campaign, and long before, I advocated for reforming our broken tax code.  Today’s legislation represents a major promise kept during my first year in office.  As I have long said, I would only support a tax plan that puts working families first.  This plan does that,” said Representative Mitchell.

“For families like the one I grew up in, an extra $2,059 would have made a huge difference, and I know it will for many families in our district.  For the 57 percent of Americans who don’t have enough money to cover a $500 emergency expense, this money matters.

“By doubling the standard deduction and lowering rates across the board, we achieve both our goals of simplifying and lowering taxes for Americans at every income level.

“I am proud to vote to send the Tax Cuts and Jobs at to President Trump’s desk before Christmas.”
