Washington, D.C. – Representative Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2018:

“To preserve our security and peace in our increasingly dangerous world, we must provide our military with the resources necessary to respond to any threat.  Today’s legislation takes steps to rebuild our military after a half-decade of cuts, ensures military readiness, and funds a well-deserved pay increase for our troops,” said Representative Mitchell.

“Notably, it includes funding for A-10 wing upgrades, some of which are housed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.  It also provides full funding, beyond the Presidential budget request, for F-35 fighter jets.”

The House-passed NDAA includes:

  • Full funding for the 2.4% pay raise our troops are entitled to by law.
  • $103 million for A-10 wing upgrades.
  • Funds for 87 F-35 aircrafts, beyond the Presidential Budget request of 70 aircraft to accommodate for the Service/COCOM identified shortfall.

Yesterday, representative Mitchell sent a letter to Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson urging the introduction of F35s to Selfridge Air National Guard Base.  Read the letter here.
