Mitchell Votes to Support the Armed Forces
WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2019:
“The passage of H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act fulfills Congress’ important constitutional duty to provide for the common defense by ensuring our military has the funding it needs to secure our nation from increasing threats worldwide. This bill boosts funding to levels consistent with the National Defense Authorization Act and Department of Defense requests to ensure the military has the resources to rebuild equipment, restore readiness, and support our warfighters.
Specifically, the bill further provides a 2.6% pay raise for our troops, the largest in 9 years. The bill provides more than $145 billion for equipment procurement and upgrades, including wing improvements to the A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft housed at Selfridge ANGB. The bill also provides significantly increased funding for training and readiness programs, ensuring that our troops are ready for their missions, while also funding modernization efforts.
To preserve our security and peace in our increasingly dangerous world, we must provide our military with the resources necessary to respond to any threat and I am confident this bill does just that.”
The bill passed on the floor with a vote of 359-49.
