Rep. Mitchell’s Reaction to the Department of Justice IG Report

June 19, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee joint hearing, “Oversight of the FBI and DOJ Actions in Advance of the 2016 Election.”

“After reviewing the Department of Justice Inspector General’s report and attending today’s hearing, there is no question that members of FBI leadership allowed personal biases to affect their work during the Clinton Email Investigation and the Russian Collusion Investigation. The public expectation is that members of law enforcement do their work in a way that is impartial and free from bias. This report details abuses within the senior ranks of the FBI that seriously damages the public’s perceptions of the agency. I’m disappointed that we need investigations into political bias and clear mismanagement at the FBI. The American people deserve to have trust in the highest levels of law enforcement and the FBI, and those who discredit the agency’s reputation through pervasive political bias should be severely disciplined.”
