In addition to being home to plants and wildlife, they also support our fishing and tourism industry, and are a source of drinking water.  I am a member of the Great Lakes Task Force, dedicated to advancing policies and programs that protect environmental quality throughout the Great Lakes basin.

WASHINGTON –  This morning, the United States House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2019 which included language offered by Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) affirming the national security importance of the Soo Locks. The bill also included an amendment offered by Congressman Mitchell that eliminates unnecessary procurement requirements.

WASHINGTON – Last Friday, Representatives Paul Mitchell (R-MI), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and John Moolenaar (R-MI) led a bipartisan letter to President Donald Trump, urging his continued commitment to rebuild and improve the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The letter was sent in response to remarks the president made during a recent event in Washington Township, Michigan, where he told the crowd he supports modernizing the Soo Locks.

Shelby Township, Michigan – Congressman Paul Mitchell (MI-10) released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Lakewide Action and Management Plan (LAMP) for Lake Huron. The LAMP is a binational plan between the American and Canadian governments that provides an assessment of Lake Huron’s ecosystem, identifies ecological risks, and sets priorities and further action to restore and protect Lake Huron.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Rep. Paul Mitchell (MI-10) sent a letter to Canadian Ambassador to the United States, Hon. David MacNaughton, urging repair of the Bluewater Ferry. Since January 2018, the Bluewater Ferry, which connects Marine City, Michigan to Sombra, Ontario, has been inoperable due to damage sustained to the ferry’s dock on the Canadian side of the St. Clair River.
